Fall has arrived in Central, Illinois. For many, myself included, it’s our favorite time of year. So now that we have our sweatshirts and Pumpkin Spice Lattes we can enjoy the seasonal benefits the Midwest has to offer. Not only do we dress the part, we love to decorate for Fall, too; pumpkins, corn stalks, and straw bales adorn my front porch. Inside, I pull out earth pillows, thick, cozy throw blankets, and light my favorite fall candles. I have my old stand bys but always like to add a new fall item or two to my collection. Let’s take a look at some of the hottest fall home decorating trends this season.
Blue tones and Turkish accents are still lingering from the summer months. A blue sofa is like a good pair of denim jeans; it goes with just about everything. The bright colors and intricate patterns known to the Turkish and Kilim rugs and pillows add high interest to a solid sofa.
Texture is huge this season; the cozier, the better. Plush velvets are being mixed with slubbed linen to create a wonderful eclectic look. This season, texture isn’t just for fabrics. Bring the outside in with a live-edge table and organic accents.

We are seeing a shift from the grey and white-washed wood tones back to the rich warm mahogany and walnut tones. We notice that instead of silver, these woods are being paired with an antique brass for a classic, traditional appeal. Unlike the brass of the past, the trend of 2015 is more of a burnished, antiqued brass. It’s a little more refined and not nearly as shiny as what we’ve seen before.

Mixing metals in no longer taboo. Mercury glass has made it possible to bring gold and silver tones together. It creates a wonderful laying look that keeps the eye moving. Watch out for copper and rose gold this season. It’s on the rise.

Plaid has made a strong comeback since the 1990’s. With it’s rustic elegance plaid is everywhere this season. From clothing to accessories and is now drenching homes in all it’s cozy glory.
