The home office or workspace may look like any other room; however don’t be fooled by a simple desk and chair, this room needs special attention. From lighting to comfort, your office is where you spend a large part of your day and should reflect the amount of time you dedicate to it.
Start with a great desk. It doesn’t have to be expensive,

but it does have to be inspiring. Whether it’s dark and industrial or soft and feminine, find a desk that sparks creativity. To protect your desk from daily use, look for distressed wood, leather, or glass-topped tables that will hide and stand up to scratches. Purchase one that has a large enough surface area for you to work. If you’re like me and like to sprawl out, a small desk is difficult to keep organized and uncluttered.
Having a worktop with lots of storage is not as important as having a bookshelf or credenza close by that allows you to both display pictures and hide files. A single piece that has both storage and open shelving makes for a multifunctional work space.

The biggest area to not skimp on is your chair. If you spend most of the day sitting, your chair should first and foremost be comfortable. Look beyond the range of black and brown office chairs and consider a dining or wing-back chair. This is a great area to add a bit of color and fun through fabric or pillows.
Once you know what sort of office you need to get you motivated, and have your three basic pieces, it’s time to accessorize. Pay special attention to lighting, both natural and artificial, as well as reflective surfaces such as mirrors. Enhancing any light source will make for a brighter, more invigorating room. Also, think of adding plants or flowers to the space to bring in natural sources of energy and greenery.
