With each new year brings new color trends and home décor options. Like fashion, interior design is always evolving. This evolution includes new looks for old favorites.. like wallpaper and the color blush. Tweaked and marketed to a younger generation puts a new spin on tried and true styles. 2018 is no exception. This year we will discover global influence in home trends from statement-making accessories to a shift in color trends.
Lavender, lilac, ultra violet. Soft and soothing, pastel and unpredictable. Millennial pink is (finally) taking a backseat to make way for it’s good friend purple. Watch for all things lavender to hit the marketplace. From paint colors to bedding, upholstery fabric and accent pieces.

Subway tile, while neutral and classic and still a favorite of mine, will begin to shift popularity. Moving on, we will begin to see patterned tiles emerge in it’s place. Texture and metallic accents brass hardware are on the rise in kitchens and bathrooms.

Woven textures will add just enough ooohhh without going overboard. Subtly, add a woven or macramé inspired stool to your marble island or a rattan daybed in your loft area. Keep the trend going with a wicker lantern or basket appropriately placed for a full boho transformation.

Warm colors, like red and orange are on their way back. This is refreshing after years of stark white on white. I can hear the mid and southwest cheering. Watch for blankets, rugs, pillows, and accent chairs in brighter, warmer tones. This will provide high contrast to the mostly neutral and white paint color palette that is sticking around this year.

Statement lighting for the win. It’s time to remove the builder-grade lighting that’s been (literally) hanging over your head for decades. Add interest and a conversation piece with a pendant or chandelier meant to evoke drama in an otherwise overlooked space.
