At the age of ten Susan realized she wanted to be an interior designer. She remembers vividly the time she convinced her mom to paint her bedroom navy to contrast her white wicker furniture, and ever since she has loved color, design, and furniture. In a Home Economics class in high school, Susan was exposed to interior design which confirmed her passion for it, and received a degree in Interior Design from Bradley University.
Susan joined the Sauder Furniture team a year and a half ago. Susan had begun to think about getting back into interior design after a hiatus to focus on her children when, unbeknownst to her, Susan’s sister applied for a design position under Susan’s name at Sauder Furniture. After receiving a phone call about her application, Susan played along and went for an interview where she was offered the job and was delighted to accept.
As a designer, Susan finds inspiration from art, nature, architecture, and vintage, historical pieces that tell a story. Susan loves using color in her designs and enjoys the challenge of fitting together the different pieces like a puzzle. She enjoys the ever-changing world of design and that each day there is something new which appeals to her artistic personality. Besides wowing clients, Susan likes the, “family atmosphere and heart,” of Sauder Furniture. As a local store, Sauder Furniture allows Susan to get to know her community in a different way, and has loved watching it grow and rebuild.
Susan lives in Washington, IL where she lives with her three children, Christian, Haleah and Antonio, and enjoys spending time with her family, working on projects around the house with her daughter, and cooking with her mother.

Susan’s Signature:
Susan loves leaving clients with two sets of pillows. One set for the spring and summer, and the other set for the fall and winter. “This gives a fresh look every few months and lets you have fun with color and fabric while having your foundation pieces still work with a variety of things.”
