With all the trends I see within a day at Sauder’s, I couldn’t help but notice that colorful couches are on the rise. No longer content with beige or gray, sofas are finding themselves adorned in all colors of the rainbow. As fun and bold as this design choice is, you may be hesitant to try it. After all, most living rooms you encounter contain neutral toned seating with color arriving by way of pillows, wall paint, and accessories. It may be a leap to purchase a neon yellow sectional, but we promise it will pay off. If you’re ready to try the latest craze, let’s dive in and talk about decorating from the opposite end of the spectrum and what to do with a colorful couch.

Red, blue, yellow, or green- whatever color your couch is, find its complimenting color and use that as your accent. (For example, if you have a navy couch try accenting with pops of yellow.) This is a fool-proof way to find what works best with a colored sofa.

Colorful furniture doesn’t have to mean white walls. Try painting your wall a color three to four shades lighter than your sofa or even a patterned wallpaper in the same color family. Whatever you pick can become the new “neutral” to your unique space. However, depending on your personal style, the best way to show off a vibrant piece of furniture may be to let it stand on its own. Neutral décor can really make a bright sofa sing, and it is perfectly acceptable to make your sofa the signature piece.Whether you want a room full of color or prefer a subtle approach, you want to choose a hue you really love. If you’re partial to purple you might not be happy looking at a bright red couch every day.

One last tip: there aren’t any restrictions about how to add color and life to a room. Artful design is not limited by color and neither are you. For more ideas and inspiration talk to our designers on how to expertly style with a color-loving couch.
