Cohesive Home Styling

This blog has dedicated a lot of space to decorating specific rooms. From the family room to the office we’ve told how to “make it work” for your family. Today’s blog is dedicated to the big picture: your entire house. Because your house isn’t a disconnected assortment of rooms with isolated styles and purposes, a true home flows well and each room reflects an aspect or need of the people living there. So while we love that you’ve mastered accessorizing your mantel or successfully transitioned your home to a summer look, we want you to step back, take it all in, and size up how well-balanced your home feels. If a few rooms feel out of place this blog is for you.

The first way to achieve a uniform home is through color. Find a series of three or four (or more) colors that pair well together and use them in varying combinations from room to room. For example, if your living room is blue, yellow, and gray you could style your kitchen in navy and white. Mixing and matching different colors and shades keeps your house feeling consistent without becoming boring. However, if you are a minimalist maven then go crazy with your bone, eggshell, khaki, and charcoal because no matter what shade you use your home will always look perfectly chic.

The second way to get a congruous look throughout your home is to pick a signature style and bring elements of that style into each room. If you love French Country then make your bedroom all white, antiqued, and ruffled. However, pair down the look in the home office with wrought iron lamps and a leather chair to give the traditionally feminine style a more tailored and subdued edge. A home’s style doesn’t have to shout to get the point across. A few key pieces with clean lines can say “contemporary” without every surface having to be stainless steel and each room containing a modern art installation.

The last way to have a harmonious design is to coordinate similar accessories throughout the house. If every room has its own unique furniture, a single mood can still be achieved through similarity of details. Pay attention to lighting, floors, and smaller décor items such as throw pillows and art to deliver your understated style unconsciously to the viewer.

Our designers understand that no matter which method you pick to attain a cohesive look, it is a challenge to actually pull off. So if you can’t seem to settle on the perfect color scheme, style-identity, or struggle to find the right accessories, our designers are willing to help in any of your home styling conundrums. Sometimes all it takes is the right shade of yellow or the perfect mix of industrial-farmhouse to unlock your home’s hidden potential.
